Mary Freundt Spahos

Mary Freundt Spahos, 74, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026. Born on December 22, 1951, in Savannah, Georgia, Mary spent most of her life in her beloved hometown before making her home in Statesboro, Georgia, where she resided for nearly twenty-five years. A lifelong learner with a deep commitment to faith and service, Mary was a graduate of Savannah High School, Armstrong Atlantic University in Savannah, and Rhema Bible Training College in Oklahoma. 

Mary dedicated many years of her professional life to healthcare, serving as both a laboratory technician and laboratory manager at Memorial Medical Center and St. Joseph's/Candler in Savannah. Through her work, she contributed to the care and well-being of countless patients.

A devoted member of East Main Street Church of God in Statesboro, Mary faithfully volunteered and served her church family for many years. Her strong faith guided her life and was evident in her kindness, generosity, and willingness to help others. 

Mary cherished time spent with her family above all else. She especially loved being with her children and grandchildren, creating memories that will be treasured for generations. She also found great joy in visiting the beach, spending time on the water, gardening, and reading.

Mary shared a loving marriage of twenty-nine years with her husband, Andrew M. Spahos. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and devotion to one another.

She is survived by her son, Brett Allan Smith and his wife, Laura Smith; her daughter, Barbara Smith Robertson and her husband, Leon Robertson III; and seven beloved grandchildren: Veida Stringfield, Christian Smith (wife Courtney Smith), Noah Smith, Ava Smith, Leon (Logan) Robertson IV, Londyn Smith, and Riley Robertson.

Mary is also survived by her brother, Paul Freundt, and her sister, Josephine Smith. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jewel Saturday Freundt, father, Albert Henry Freundt, Sr., and two brothers, Albert Henry Freundt, Jr. and Robert Henry Freundt.

Services will be held at East Main Street Church of God on Saturday, August 22, starting at 11:00 am for friends and family and a 12:00 pm service, followed by burial at Ash Branch Primitive Baptist Church.
